7 Remove Y-Axis

  • Carefully lift the Y-axis, slide out of the frame, and set aside

8 Position Printer for Squaring

  • Lay the printer on its side as shown on a clean work surface.
  • Rotate printer so you are facing the base
  • We will be inspecting the 4 aluminum pieces highlighted

Extrusions to check

9 Inspect Black Aluminum Frame

  • The black aluminum frame segments, called extrusions, should be flush with each other and with the frame corner bracket.
  • Frame adjustment will be required if the extrusions are not flush with each other and with the corner bracket.
Incorrect Alignment
Correct Alignment

10 Align

  • Start by loosening the 4 screws securing the corner bracket
Loosen Screws On Corner Bracket

11 Position extrusion

  • With the four screws loose on the corner bracket, align the two extrusions with each other and the corner bracket.
  • Once aligned, tighten the 4 screws using the 3mm hex key
Alignment

12 Verify all 4 base extrusions

  • Repeat steps 10 and 11 for all 4 base aluminum extrusions

13 Measure Front Frame Diagonally

  • With all 4 base corners flush, measure diagonally from corner of the front frame to the opposing corner.
  • This number should be the same in both directions ~75cm (approximately 29in)
  • This number may vary, but should be the same in both directions

... To The Lower Corner

14 Measure Rear Frame Diagonally

  • With all 4 base corners flush, measure diagonally from corner of the rear frame to the opposing corner.
  • This number should be the same in both directions ~75cm (approximately 29in)
  • This number may vary, but should be the same in both directions

... To The Lower Corner

15 Verify Diagonal Lengths

  • If all four diagonal lengths are not equal, repeat steps 10 through 12

16 Tighten Front Frame Connectors

  • Using the 3mm hex key tighten all 4 front frame connector screws (16 total)
  • Ensure all screws are VERY TIGHT. If a torque wrench/driver is available, tighten screws to 36 inch-pounds to 40 inch-pounds

17 Tighten Rear Frame Connectors

  • Using the 3mm hex key tighten all 4 rear frame connector screws (16 total)
  • Ensure all screws are VERY TIGHT. If a torque wrench/driver is available, tighten screws to 36 inch-pounds to 40 inch-pounds

18 Verify Measurments

  • Verify diagonal measurements after tightening the connectors to ensure all 4 are equal.

19 Reposition Printer Frame

  • Place the frame in an upright position for Y-axis installation

20 Install Y-Axis

  • Place Y-axis assembly into the frame mounts on the lower aluminum extrusion
  • Ensure the motor is to the rear of the printer
  • Secure Y-axis using the 4 thumb screws removed in step 6

23 Level X-Axis

  • Measure from the X-axis smooth rod to the Z upper connectors on the right and left side
  • If the measurements are not equal, manually rotate the right threaded rod clockwise/counterclockwise to bring the X-axis to level
  • Verify the leveling of the X-axis by measuring again

24 Test Z-Axis Movement

  • Plug in and power on your 3D printer
  • Use the Graphical LCD Controller, or GLCD, to move the Z-axis by pressing in on the controller knob and selecting: Movement > Auto Home
  • After homing, move the Z-axis to the top of the Z-axis travel height through the GLCD: Movement > Move Axis > 10mm > Z-axis > 270
Graphical LCD Controller Movement Menu

25 Perform A Test Print

  • If the Z axis moves smoothly during homing and also back up to the top of the printer perform a test print. Follow the First Print section of the Quick Start Guide included with your TAZ 3D printer!

  • If you cannot home or move your Z-axis up after squaring the frame, please contact our support team at Support@LulzBot.com or +1-970-377-1111
