Project Dashboard LulzBot Bio Sonic Tension Meter 508C for LulzBot Mini 2 Workflow

1 Run Gcode to place axis

On the SD card with the machine, run the gcode titled Z-Belts_Measure-Tension.gcode

This will level the X-Axis, place the Z-axis in the measuring position, and turn of X/Y motors so that the X/Y axis can be placed as needed.

If the gcode is not available or the machine is not yet fully assembled, simply move the axis by hand towards the middle of travel.
Ensure that the slack side of the belt is not interfering with any printed parts, this will provide inaccurate measurements.

2 Setup 508C Sonic Tension Meter

To begin, power on the meter by pressing the power button.

The currently selected configuration will be displayed once the meter has powered on.

In the top left corner of the display, the currently selected configuration set is reflected "S No00"

For Mini 2 we will be using S No02 for X/Y Belts and S No03 for Z-Belts. This is because Z-Belts on the Mini 2 have a longer span than X/Y Belts.

To select a configuration set, simply press the corresponding number on the meters number pad.

Once the appropriate configuration set has been selected, press the Measure button, the meter is now ready to measure belt tension.

3 Measure X/Y Belts

Ensure S No02 is selected on the Sonic Tension Meter.

With the X/Y-Axis in the middle of their travel, position the microphone of the meter next to the long "slack" side of the belt.

Strum or pluck the belt, almost like playing a bass guitar. The Sonic Tension Meter will listen to the frequency of the audible vibration and calculate the belts current tension in Newtons (N)

Wait a few seconds between strums and ensure that ambient noise is low enough not to interfere with measurement. Talking while taking belt tension measurements will provide inaccurate measurements.

Select Setting Number 2 and press Measure button
Position the microphone and strum the Y belt
Position the microphone and strum the X belt

4 Measure Z-Belts

Ensure S No03 is selected on the Sonic Tension Meter.

With the Z-Axis in the middle of travel, position the microphone of the meter next to the long "slack" side of the belt.

Setting Number 3 selected and ready to measure
Position microphone next to inside length of right Z-Belt and strum
Position microphone next to inside length of left Z-Belt and strum
