2 Required Tools

  • Scissors or Flush Cutters
  • Replacement Mini Terminated X Nema 17 Motor
  • Zip Ties
  • 2.5mm driver
  • 1.27mm driver
  • Pliers
  • Flat Head Screwdriver

3 Position Tool Head

  • Connect your Printer through Cura and home the Z axis.

  • You will want the tool head roughly in the center of the X axis travel range.

4 Power Down

  • Turn off your 3D Printer

5 Release the X Axis Belt

  • Using your 2.5mm driver remove the belt retaining screw.
  • Remove the belt from the clamp.

6 Cut Zip Ties

  • Using Scissors or Flush Cutters remove the two highlighted zip ties.

  • Be careful not to cut any wires

7 Unplug Connector

  • Unplug X axis Motor Connector

8 Remove Motor Screws

  • Remove the 4 screws holding the X axis motor in place.

9 Remove Motor

  • When removing the motor, carefully bring the cabling with it.

10 Save 16 Tooth Pulley

  • Using your 1.27mm driver loosen the two set screws holding the pulley in place.

11 Install 16 Tooth Pulley

  • Install the pulley onto the replacement motor.

  • Be sure one set screw is on the flat of the motor shaft, and both are tight.

12 Position Motor and Wiring

  • Position your motor so the connector is coming from the bottom.
  • Route your wires under and up as shown.

13 Install Motor Screws

  • Replace the screws removed in step 8.

14 Plug in Motor Connection

  • Plug in X Axis Motor Connector

15 Replace Zip Ties

  • Replace the Zip Tie cut in step 6

16 Route Belt

  • Route the belt around the Y axis pulley and back to the belt clamp

17 Secure Belt

  • Wrap the belt around the top of the clamp as shown, and insert using a flat head screwdriver.
  • We want the belt to be slack right now, leave as little excess belt extending from the clamp as possible
  • Replace the belt clamp screw.

18 Tighten Belt

  • Loosen the left belt clamp (when facing rear of printer.)
  • Using pliers, grab the excess belt from the clamp and twist the pliers clockwise.
  • While maintaining tension with the pliers, tighten the belt clamp.

19 You're Done!

Verify everything is working properly:

  • Does your X axis move freely back and forth?

  • Do you feel any rubbing of the belt during movement?

  • Print your favorite test object to verify functionality.

  • Be sure to watch the bed probing sequence, to ensure everything is hooked up properly.
