Project Dashboard Firmware Flashing Windows Driver Installation Workflow

1 Items Needed

Note for AO-100 Users

  • The LulzBot AO-100 3D printer uses the RAMPS electronics package. The drivers will automatically be available after installing the Arduino IDE.

Getting Started

  • Save the file to your desktop or other memorable location. Extract the files using 7-zip or any other archive manager.

2 Install The Arduino IDE

If you already have the Arduino IDE installed on your computer you may skip this step. Continue with the next step if you are using a TAZ 3D printer or an AO-101.

  • Double click on the instaler file.
  • Open a new browser window and load the Arduino website found at Arduino.cc.
  • Select the Download tab.
  • Scroll down to the download options
  • Click on the Windows Installer option or place your mouse over the Windows Installer text and Right Click and select Save as.
  • Save the file and make sure to note where the file has been saved.

    • Please note that some firmware may require a specific version of the Arduino IDE, version 1.0.5. 1.0.5-R2 may not compatible. Past versions of the Arduino IDE can be found on Code.Google.com
  • Use your file exporer to navigate to the download location if neccessary.

  • Double click on the file to install the Arduino IDE.
  • Once installed proceed to the next step.

If you are using an AO-100, your drivers are now installed! If not, continue to the next step!

3 Install the RAMBo Driver

  • The AO-101 uses the RAMBo board for the electronics package. The driver for the AO-101 and the TAZ are the same.

  • Download the zip archive found here: RAMBo Driver

  • Save the file to your desktop or other memorable location. Then extract the files using 7-zip or any other archive manager.

  • Power on your 3D printer, and plug it into your computer using the supplied USB cable.

4 Open the Start Menu

  • On your computer, click on the Start Menu.

  • Using your mouse, right click on Computer and select Manage. You may be asked to enter your administrator password, if so please do so to continue.

5 Device Manager

  • In the new window that opens, on the left hand pane under Computer Management open System Tools and select Device Manager.

  • In the center of the window, right click over the RAMBo entry and select Update Driver Software. If you have having difficulty finding this line, look for the yellow triangle icon.

6 Install the Driver

  • You will be presented with a screen with two options. Select Browse my computer for driver software.

  • Use the file tree and select the folder containing the driver you downloaded at the beginning of this guide. In our example we used the Desktop.

  • Click Next and the process should start. You may be presented with a prompt asking for permission to install the driver. Select Install to continue. It should then finish the process and refresh the Device Manager window.

Your 3D Printer driver should now be installed and working!
