1 Getting Started

2 Required Tools

  • LulzBot Mini Y axis terminated nema 17 motor
  • 2.5mm driver
  • 2mm driver
  • 1.27mm driver
  • Flush cutters or scissors
  • Pliers
  • Zip tie
  • Flat head screwdriver

3 Power off your 3D Printer

  • Power down your 3D Printer.
  • Unplug the USB Connection and the Power Cable.

4 Position your 3D printer

  • Position your LulzBot Mini as shown.
  • You will be working through the base of the printer.

5 Release Y Axis Belt

  • Using your 2.5mm driver remove the belt clamp screw.
  • Remove belt from clamp.

6 Cut Zip Tie

  • Cut the zip tie for the Y axis motor.

7 Unplug Connector

  • Unplug motor connector.

8 Remove Motor

  • Using your 2.5mm Driver remove the 4 screws securing the motor.

9 Remove 16 Tooth Pulley

  • Using your 1.27mm Driver loosen the two set screws on the pulley.
  • Remove the pulley.

10 Install 16 Tooth Pulley

  • Using the 1.27mm Driver install the pulley onto the new motor.
  • Ensure one set screw is on the flat of the shaft, and that both are tight.

11 Install Motor

  • Position motor wiring through hole as shown.
  • Using your 2mm Driver install the 4 screws removed in step 8.

12 Plug In Connector

  • Plug in motor connector.

13 Secure Motor Wire

  • Secure motor to the frame using a Zip Tie.

14 Route Belt

  • Route belt around Y Axis Pulley.
  • Make sure there is no twist in the belt.

15 Attach Y Axis Belt

  • Wrap the belt around the bottom of the clamp, and insert using a flat head screwdriver.
  • We want the belt to be slack right now, leave as little excess belt extending from the clamp as possible
  • Replace the belt clamp screw.

16 Tighten Belt

  • Loosen the left belt clamp
  • Using pliers, grab the excess belt from the clamp and twist the pliers counterclockwise.
  • While maintaining tension with the pliers, tighten the belt clamp.

17 You're Done!

Verify everything is working properly:

  • Does your Y axis move freely back and forth?

  • Do you feel any rubbing of the belt during movement?

  • Print your favorite test object to verify functionality.

  • Be sure to watch the bed probing sequence, to ensure everything is hooked up properly.
