Project Dashboard Accessories and Upgrades Mount Adapter Installation Instructions for Mini 1 Workflow

1 Getting Started

Follow the instructions below to install the Universal Mount Adapter onto your LulzBot Mini 1 to take advantage of the latest generation of LulzBot Tool Heads:

  • SL Tool Head | Small Layer | 0.25 mm
  • SE Tool Head | Single Extruder | 0.5 mm
  • HS Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 0.8 mm
  • HS+ Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 1.2 mm

2 Included Materials

  • (1) Adapter plate with wiring harness
  • (2) M3 x 10 Bolt, SHCS Black-oxide
  • (1) M3 x 10 Flat Head Screw
  • (2) 18-8 Black-Oxide Steel Flat Washer, M3 Screw Size

You will also need

  • 2 mm metric hex key
  • 2.5 mm metric hex key
  • 4 mm metric hex key
  • One of the following:
    SL Tool Head | Small Layer | 0.25 mm
    SE Tool Head | Single Extruder | 0.5 mm
    HS Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 0.8 mm
    HS+ Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 1.2 mm

4 Power off your 3D printer

Power off and unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.

5 Remove Connector Cover

Using the 2.5 mm hex key remove the two M3 screws on your connector cover.

Lift off the cover, exposing the tool head connector.

6 Disconnect Tool Head

Holding both connector housings, gently wiggle the connector free. Do not pull on the wires, only the connector housing.

7 Remove Tool Head

The tool head is attached with three screws. The print surface can be damaged if the tool head is allowed to fall onto the print surface. With one hand, support the tool head while following removal steps below.

Using the 4mm hex key, unscrew the three M5 screws securing the tool head to the X-axis carriage. Remove the bottom screw first, followed by the remaining two screws.

Remove the tool head from the printer by lifting the tool head away from the printer.

8 Mount the Tool Head to Adapter

Screw in the M3 flat head screw from the back into the tool head.

Screw in the two M3 socket head screws into the top of the mount.

Connect the adapter and tool head connectors, making sure to fully seat the connectors until they lock.

9 Mount Tool Head + Adapter to Printer

Mount adapter with tool head attached to Mini 1 using the three (3) M5 socket head screws on the back of the X carriage.

10 Plug in Tool Head

Connect the two 16-pin connectors, making sure to match them based on the pins in the connector.

11 Install Cover

Replace cover, aligning the two

Using the 2.5 mm hex key screw in the two M3 screws on your connector cover.

12 Flash Firmware

Once the tool head is installed, you will need to flash the correct firmware to your printer.
Follow the guide below for the step by step walkthrough of flashing your printer with the correct firmware.
