1 Getting Started

2 Required Tools

  • Scissors or flush cutters
  • 2.5 mm hex driver
  • 2 mm hex driver
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Motor Damper

3 Power off your LulzBot 3D printer

  • Power off and unplug your LulzBot Mini 3D printer
  • Unplug the USB cable if connected.

4 Place The 3D Printer On Its Side

Make sure your work surface is clean to prevent any scuffs and scratches.

  • Lift and lay the 3D printer on its left-hand side, exposing the Y-axis belt path
  • Orient the underside of the 3D printer is accessible.

5 Loosen & Release One Side Of The Y-Axis Belt

  • Using your 2.5 mm driver loosen one belt clamp screw
  • Remove the belt from 3D printed clamp taking note to remember the belt path orientation.

6 Place 3D Printer Upright

  • Stand the 3D printer back on its base.
  • Rotate the 3D printer 180° around so the rear of the Y-axis stepper motor is visible.

7 Cut Zip Tie

  • Note: Do not cut the stepper motor wires or the heat shrink.
  • Cut the zip tie securing the Y-axis stepper motor wire to the 3D printer frame.
  • Remove the zip tie.

8 Unplug Connector

  • Depress the locking tab on the Y-axis stepper motor connector.
  • Unplug the Y-axis stepper motor connector.

9 Remove Motor

  • Using the 2 mm driver remove the 4 screws securing the y-axis stepper motor to the motor mount.

10 Install Damper

  • Place the damper on the stepper motor and align the two larger screw holes.
  • Use the 2 mm driver to install the damper using two of the screws removed in step 9.

11 Position Motor

  • Line up the two remaining screw holes on the stepper motor damper with the screw holes on the Y-axis motor mount.

12 Install Motor

  • Install the stepper motor using the remaining two screws from step 9 and your 2 mm driver.
  • Reconnect the Y axis motor.

13 Route Belt

  • Place the 3D printer back on its left-hand side
  • Route belt around Y-axis pulley.
  • Make sure that the belt is not twisted.

14 Attach Y Axis Belt

  • Wrap the belt around the bottom of the clamp, and insert using a flat head screwdriver.
  • While keeping the belt slack, leave as little excess belt extending from the clamp as possible.
  • Replace the belt clamp screw.

15 Tighten Y Axis Belt

  • Loosen the left belt clamp.
  • Using pliers, grab the excess belt from the clamp and twist the pliers counter-clockwise.
  • While maintaining tension with the pliers, tighten the belt clamp
  • Do Not Over Tighten

16 You're Done!

Verify everything is working properly:

  • Does your Y axis move freely back and forth?

  • Do you feel any rubbing of the belt during movement?

  • Print your favorite test object to verify functionality.

  • Be sure to watch the bed probing sequence, to ensure everything is connected.
