Project Dashboard Accessories and Upgrades MegaSpool Feeder Usage Instructions Workflow

1 Load the Spool

  • Use only IC3D 5kg or 10kg spools with the Spool Assist system.
  • Ensure filament is pulled from the underside of the spool—not over the top.
Filament direction through feeder.

2 Thread the Filament

  • Guide the filament through the trigger mechanism.
  • Continue threading the filament to your 3D printer's extruder. (Route through the runout sensor on your printer if applicable).
Thread the filament through the feeder and into your printers extruder.

3 Adjust Spool Assist Settings

  • Set the SPEED and DISTANCE based on your printer’s current printing requirements.
  • These settings control how much and how fast filament is delivered and may be different print to print.

The speed is how fast the feeder will turn.
The distance is how much filament to feed/how long after triggering it will turn at the set speed.

4 Monitor Motor Activity

  • Do not allow the spool to turn continuously.
  • If the motor is engaged for more than 30 seconds, the Spool Assist will automatically shut down to prevent overfeeding. -The spool will still turn manually, but with added resistance.

5 Reset After Auto Shutdown

If shutdown occurs:

  • Disengage the Trigger from the "On" position.

  • Reset the system by adjusting the SPEED to a higher setting.

Disengage and adjust speed higher

6 Optimize Trigger Activation

For best performance, adjust settings so the trigger activates the motor every 15–20 seconds.

This helps maintain a steady, reliable filament feed without overworking the motor.
